RITA & AMIR’S UBC SAGE BISTRO PERSIAN WEDDING

Relaxed Elegance in a Persian Wedding

Moment captured by Michele Mateus Photography

Rita and Amir’s wedding in August 2018 has to be one of my most beautiful weddings that I’ve done to date! The amount of time spent by the couple on making this wedding cohesive, beautiful, and just an all around phenomenon would have had to be extensive.

Rita and Amir chose to host their wedding at the Sage Bistro at UBC (where ThistleBEA is now a preferred vendor!), with the ceremony outside in the stunning rose garden. The families of both the bride and groom are from Iran so having traditional Persian elements, such as a sofre, was very important to them, but also important was the ability to actually sit back and enjoy their day and the people that they surrounded themselves with.

While Rita & Amir kept some significant cultural traditions in their wedding day, they were sure to make the traditions their own. With help from Rojalux, their sofre included all the important elements (nuts, fruits, wheat, a mirror, gold coins, and more) they arranged it differently from what you might expect with their arrangements primarily on pillars to either side of them as they fulfilled the legal aspects of their marriage ceremony. The only things included on the table in front of them were the mirror, honey to share, and a book of Persian poetry as a secular substitution for the Quran.

The couple chose, as many more are, to enjoy their cocktail hour with their guests on the patio of Sage Bistro. We put down photo props on all the cocktail tables so as guests were enjoying beverages, appies, and the full August sun, they were also enjoying taking silly photos together (which can be a great way for your guests to break the ice).
The reception was set up with a sweetheart table and two long harvest style tables, dripped in candlelight; no exaggeration! There were over 100 candles lit on some beautiful damask overlays! The candelabras and chivari chairs that accented the tables were all clear or glass which helped make the room feel extremely elegant.

The couple (especially Rita!) were more concerned with enjoying their wedding day with their family and friends so when Michele Mateus tried to take them away for some beautiful sunset photos (the day was perfect for sunset photos!) they took maybe only 15 minutes before Rita and Amir were back on the dance floor, enjoying their party!

From the Bride:

We are beyond grateful to have Breanne as our day-of-coordinator for our wedding. From the moment we saw her we knew she will be the perfect person to give us the wedding that we have imagined. Breanne was super organized, very detail-oriented and supportive whenever we had a concern or a bit of anxiety attack during the wedding. Both Breanne and Deborah did a wonderful just setting up both our ceremony area and dinner reception as we have expected. I could go on and on as there are too many wonderful things I could say about them so all I can say is that ThistleBea team were simply amazing and wonderful and we were so lucky to have their help and support on our wedding day. Thank you Breanne & Deborah!
