Chelsea and Ryan married in March 2018 at Earl’s Loft in Yaletown, a local restaurant venue which is pretty inclusive; including catering, staff, furniture, and bar.
Since the ceremony and reception took place in the same room, the couple decided to work with the venue aesthetic, which featured lots of natural exposed brick and organic wood such as beams. The father of the bride recreated an octagonal arbour the bride had seen on social media, to which were added embellishments from Buds and Blooms. The arbour was surrounded by cut logs, including two with the couple’s initials burned into them.

Chelsea and Ryan utilized family and friends: as well as involving her father, they also had their photography done by a friend of the groom; a friend’s florist shop, Buds and Blooms, provided the greenery; and the mother of the bride dealt with the detail of the cake. The couple organized the décor themselves.
Flair was added to the ceremony by pillar candles and tea lights in geometric terrariums. The couple’s dog, Bear, served as ringbearer while Jane from Young, Hip, & Married officiated. Aisle runners and the arbour backdrop were later re purposed as harvest table runners for the reception. Although Bear could not be present, a special place was set for her at the head table and Bear masks were handed out to guests to sport throughout the night.

For the reception, the couple sourced brass candlesticks, supplemented with bronze-painted wood and glass as well as grey and white candles, creating a clean, romantic look. Each holder was different, so they numbered the candles and candlesticks to match and whittled the candles to fit each specific holder, creating much less work for ThistleBEA on the day of, cutting down on the set-up costs for the couple.
During the family-style meal, the courses were punctuated by speeches from Chelsea and Ryan’s loved ones. The couple was happy to go with the flow, starting the dancing on an ad hoc basis and having their official ‘First Dance’ later. Similarly, the cake-cutting was pushed to later in the night than originally intended without causing a stir. Afterwards, the two walked back to their hotel, which was conveniently nearby (a good thing to keep in mind when planning!).
We were incredibly excited to learn that almost a year to the day, Chelsea and Ryan welcomed their first child! A big congrats to this couple on the addition to their family and we hope Bear isn’t too jealous a sibling.
What the couple had to say:
Choosing ThistleBEA for Day Of Coordinator services was one of the best choices we made for our wedding. I honestly can’t imagine how the day would have gone without them there. Breanne was our point of contact and she organized with all our vendors, picked up our decor, set it up BEAUTIFULLY and delivered it back the next day. She took care of any issues that arose throughout the night, unbeknown to us. Not only was she extremely effective, she is a pleasure to work with and a genuinely great person. So happy with our decision to go with a day of coordinator, it was totally worth the money spent.
