JENNY AND BRIAN’S PASTORAL WEDDING

Moment Captured by Shoebox Photography

From Breanne Dodge

I was somewhat disappointed that I couldn’t be the lead planner for Jenny & Brian’s wedding. When I first met Jenny, it was only days after my own wedding, which was also set at Aberthau. I adore this venue, and obviously it holds a special place in my heart. If you’re also getting married at Abethau Mansion, let us know; we know the place intimately at this point!”

September 2017 brought the nuptials of Jenny and Brian at Aberthau Mansion. Although the couple opted for an ‘all of our favourite things’ style rather than a typical wedding theme, the celebrations carried suggestions of the idyllic countryside, featuring greenery and garden flowers. Brian’s participation in the planning drew multiple appreciative comments – it’s always great to see a man so involved in his wedding plans that he knows all the details down to the last candlestick!

The guest list was also full of the bride and groom’s favourites, featuring sixty of their closest friends and family, many of whom had contributed to the special day in some way. The decorative dahlias and fresh hops that ornamented the venue were grown on a friend’s farm, as were the table decorations and the wedding party boutonnieres and bouquets, which were fashioned by the bride herself (with help from her fabulous wedding party, of course). The ceremony took place under a gorgeous arch handmade by another friend of the couple and draped with tulle and further hops by Breanne of ThistleBEA.

The wedding hit only a minor hitch when a shy flower girl and curious flower dog needed a bit of help walking down the aisle – the incident gave the bride a good laugh! Another potential incident was averted with some rearranging of the seating plan due to tight space; Jenny and Brian thought fast to help pull it off.

The reception featured tables adorned with a variety of homegrown flowers, primarily dahlias, along with growlers of beer from Faculty Brewing and brass candlesticks with candle sticks. Dinner included pizza from one of the couple’s favourite restaurants and dessert featured more favorites in the form of doughnuts from Cardem Donuterie as well as mini crème brûlées by Crackle Crème.

Other vendors included A&B Rentals, Seasons Catering, UBC Pizza Garden, Shoebox Photography, and Rose Quartz Makeup. ThistleBEA provided our A Day In The Life day of coordination package.

From the groom

We can’t recommend ThistleBEA enough. Winnie and Breanne were easily the best money spent on our wedding. They handled everything so well on our wedding day we were able to relax and enjoy ourselves. They took care of the smaller details, like decorating and wrangling people, and turned problems into seamless experiences. For example, during dinner, we realized we would run out of pizza. Winnie suggested the number of additional pizzas to order, and while I tried to think of which pizzas to choose, she responded we’ll need 7 pizzas, 3 meat, 4 vegetarian, and handled it. I didn’t have to give it any thought. Leading up to the wedding they handled all the final details in order to ensure things would arrive. After the wedding, they packed up all the decor, alcohol, gifts, misc. items, and loaded most of it into their cars, which they delivered for us the next day. The excess boxes I needed to pick up took under 10 minutes to load into my car because they organized the clean-up so well. They were incredibly hospitable and dependable, and a calming presence the day of. They went above and beyond our expectations. Everyone should have a Winnie and Breanne at their wedding!
