COLLEEN AND JC’S PURRRFECT VEGAN WEDDING

From the Archives: It’s Really Not That Difficult To Incorporate Your Life and Interests Into Your Wedding

Colleen and JC’s June 24th wedding was as purrrfect as it could be, with our gorgeous June summer and the stunning gardens surrounding them! After their First Look at UBC’s Nitobe Gardens, the couple joined their guests outside at the Botanical Gardens’ reception centre, for the ceremony. Officiant Linda Cohen brought a fun and energetic vibe to the proceedings, perfectly in tune with the atmosphere the couple had created. The bride and groom emphasized the lively atmosphere by decorating with pinks and blues.

After the ceremony, guests and couple adjourned inside for the reception, which was furnished with linens, cutlery, and other items that the bride had purchased, rather than choosing to rent. Doing this allowed the couple to recoup some of their costs by re-selling their items. The cute vases she’d scavenged for in order to fill with flowers made particularly fetching centerpieces. Dinner was vegan and gluten-free, and catered by close friend Karen, owner of Blue Heron Cheese. Similarly vegan and gluten-free donut cake and dessert was created by Cartems Donuts, including doughnuts that had been decorated to resemble the couple’s cats.

After dinner, the couple and their guests had a thrill dancing to 90s music, including The Spice Girls, The Backstreet Boys, and Aretha Franklin. The entire day was captured by the amazing Katryna Bowland-Kwok of Sweet Inspirations Photography and on video by B. Young Studios.

Other vendors included Wailin Dalen (DJ), as well as those previously mentioned. Colleen and JC made use of ThistleBEA’s A Day in the Life day-of coordination service.

From the Bride:

We found Breanne after our previously hired DOC got pregnant and was due right around our wedding date. From the beginning we clicked and had a great first meeting. She was great with answering any questions I had, very promptly too! She was great at our rehearsal and had everyone organized and knowing what to do the following weekend! She did the final touches on our venue set up and coordinator with all our vendors the week before the wedding, which was so helpful! Day of the wedding she was super calm and made sure we ate between pictures after the ceremony (so important!!) She was also there to tear down the venue and did that with a smile on her face and she was calling for cabs for the guests. Thank you Breanne!!!
