Winnie Chick

Lead Coordinator

Howdy folks, my name is Winnie, and I’ve been with ThistleBEA since the very beginning (2016??).  When Breanne was sharing her idea on getting ThistleBEA started and asked if I’d like to be a part of it, her enthusiasm was enough to convince me to join the team!

Outside of Thistlebea, my 9-5 job is with a leadership development company, where I help with the design of our various workshops.  When I’m not working or coordinating weddings, I enjoy playing board games with friends, catching up on shows on Netflix with my husband, and playing ultimate frisbee.

I am a wedding planner because

weddings are great events to be a part of: everyone is happy and dressed all fancy, the venues are beautifully set up, and I get to eat delicious food 😉

What is your best piece of advice in the early planning stages?

Enlist your friends and family to help you out.  You don’t have to take on the burden of getting everything done yourself: there are plenty of people who are more than happy to assist you in your special day!

Tilda Swinton, because she can play anyone.

Currently reading “The Book of Dust: La Belle Sauvage” by Philip Pullman (I LOVED the first trilogy, “His Dark Materials”, and am super excited to be back in that universe).  Last book that I finished reading was “Ella Minnow Pea” by Mark Dunn, which was absolutely fascinating and a satisfying read.

Halloween: I can dress up in whatever I want and no one will bat an eye.  Plus there’s candy!

Power outage. We were super lucky that it happened right when the dance floor was to open, the decor that day was mostly candles, and we had a back-up power source for the speakers, so no one even realized the power was out until the lights came back on prematurely!

Don’t worry about “the rules” of how things should go.  It’s your day, so make it yours!
